Earn your Certificate in Online Teaching from NEOTI

Our certificate program is available to any licensed teachers or students enrolled in pre-service teaching programs. Participants must be able to pass a background check, preferably through secondary dissemination from another institution.

For Vermont teachers, completing the three class sequence, and earning transcripted college credits, can earn you the Online Teaching Specialist endorsement. Our classes are a collaborative program with the Vermont Virtual Learning Cooperative (VTVLC). Credits earned can be applied to Castleton University’s Master of Arts in Education: Curriculum and Instruction.

Why earn an Online Teaching Specialist Endorsement?

Interested in teaching K-12 online in Vermont? All Vermont educators facilitating online coursework with Vermont students must obtain the Online Teaching Specialist (OTS) endorsement.

The Certificate in Online Teaching program meets all of Vermont AOE’s standards for the Online Teaching Specialist Endorsement. NEOTI’s Online Teaching with Practicum is the only offering in Vermont that allows you to complete the online practicum in a K-12 class, which is required for the endorsement.

Our partnership with VTVLC allows you to take part in an online teaching practicum in a wide selection of courses, with experienced online teachers to guide you.

Educators who complete the program can apply with the Vermont Agency of Education for the endorsement using the Transcript Review process. We offer more information and support about the Transcript Review process in our CiOT Handbook.

This program does not lead to an initial teaching license. You must already have a teaching license in Vermont in order to apply for the OTS endorsement. The OTS endorsement can only be added to a Vermont Level 1 or Level 2 license, NOT a Provisional, Emergency, or Apprenticeship license. Currently (May 2020) the OTS can not be added to In-Vehicle only Driver and Traffic Safety, Junior ROTC, School Nurse, Associate School Nurse, Social Worker, or Work-based Learning Coordinator endorsements.

Why earn an Online Teaching Specialist Endorsement?

All educators are welcome to take Methods I: Introduction to Online Teaching and Methods II: Online Teaching Tools and Techniques individually.

Educators looking to earn a Certificate in Online Teaching and take Online Teaching with Practicum must hold a current teaching license or be enrolled in good standing in a pre-service education program. We will only admit educators to the Online Teaching with Practicum course if they pass a background check, have demonstrated excellent work in Methods I and II, or can demonstrate they have mastery of the skills taught in those classes through other sources.
